Wait a minute... We're back in Seattle. What happened?

We had gotten to Bellingham, Washington. Before crossing into Canada we had a few last minute items to complete in Seattle, so we rented a car and drove down. One of those items was a quarterly medical checkup for me.

I had cancer (leiomyosarcoma) in my left leg that was diagnosed in the autumn of 2002. It was treated with radiation and then removed with surgery in January 2003. For 2 years following I needed a quarterly checkup because that particular cancer was very aggressive. If it metastasized, it would go straight to the lungs. The quarterly lung tests were were x-rays alternating with CT Scans.

Oops... The CT Scan for this quarterly checkup showed three nodules in my lungs - two in the right lobe and one in the left. They are all about 1cm. in diameter. They are growing quite fast, given that they weren't big enough to be visible in the last quarterly checkup.

My medical option is chemotherapy. The plan right now is to have six months of intensive and very aggressive chemo (five days in the hospital every three weeks) to match the aggressiveness of the metastatic cancer.

So the Pacific Northwest cruise is put on hold. For now.

But stay tuned to this website. I'll be posting updates from time to time.
