On May 11, 2004, Bear was diagnosed with metastatic leiomyosarcoma (cancer that has spread) in his lungs. He had four cycles of very intense chemotherapy, followed by lung surgery to remove the nodules. As all detectable cancer was removed during the surgery in early September and as his recovery was progressing very nicely, he has declared this adventure complete on this date.
