Hi all,

My lovely wife is writing this message to let you all know how the surgery went.

...Very Well!

The Dr. completed by 10am after starting at 8am. They reported that the tumor was completely removed with a margin of safety

The Dr said that they removed an area of skin approximately 2.5 inches by 1 inch. They removed an area of soft tissue about 2 inches in diameter and not too thick. They removed the tumor which the Dr said was about the size of a stack of 3 silver dollars. They did not do a skin graft; a long incision allowed them to reposition the skin to close over the removed skin.

It went very well!

Bear was in the recovery room for 2 hours and then taken to his hospital room. He has a soft cast in place on his left leg to keep it immobilized. He had a spinal for the surgery so he was alert and in good spirits when I saw him from 12:30 to 3:30.

He can be reached in two ways. He can receive short phone calls if you call the hospital at 352-265-0075 then ask for Edmund Downing in room 7531B. Or Shands Hospital has e-mail service for inpatients. Connect to http://shands.org/sam/ to send an email message. It will be printed and

delivered to him in his room with the mail. This is a great way to get a message to him.

We are very thankful for these results. We thank all of you for your love, support and concern. Thanks. Kit

More later when I get out of the hospital in a couple of days...

Fair winds,

Capt. Edmund "Bear" Downing
